The journey to college is an exciting and nerve-wracking time, especially during your senior year of high school. With a little planning and a lot of preparation, you can navigate this important year with ease. Here’s a witty and informational guide to help you through the seasons of your senior year.

Fall Semester: Getting a Head Start

  1. Meet with Your High School Counselor: Your counselor is your new BFF. They have all the knowledge about college applications and deadlines. Don’t ghost them; schedule regular check-ins.

  2. College Research: It’s time to explore! Visit campuses, stalk their social media, and weigh the costs. Whether it’s a local junior college or an Ivy League, make sure it’s the right fit for you.

  3. Complete Your FAFSA: The acronym is daunting, but FAFSA is crucial. It’s your gateway to financial aid. Gather your parents and tackle it together.

  4. Write Your Admissions Essay: This is your chance to shine. Make it personal and get feedback from teachers. Remember, it’s about standing out!

  5. Finish Applications: Deadlines come quickly. Aim for early decision benefits by getting those applications in by October.

Winter Semester: Staying on Track

  1. Maintain Your Grades: Avoid the senior slide. Colleges do check your final year grades, so keep your GPA up.

  2. Send Test Scores: Whether it’s the ACT or SAT, ensure your scores reach your chosen schools. Multiple attempts might be worth it, just don’t stress too much.

Spring Semester: Making Big Decisions

  1. Review Student Aid Report: Check your FAFSA results and understand your financial aid package. If you didn’t get enough aid, start looking for additional scholarships.

  2. Consider Acceptance Letters: Celebrate your acceptances, and start comparing financial aid offers. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket—apply to multiple schools!

  3. Research Student Loans: If needed, start looking at loan options. Understand the terms, interest rates, and repayment plans. It’s a big decision, so take your time.

  4. Choose Your School: Make your final decision and notify the school. Don’t forget to send in your deposit to secure your spot.

Summer Before College: The Final Countdown

  1. Create a College Budget: Plan your finances with a budget sheet. College Ave has great tools to help you out.

  2. Apply for Student Loans: If you need additional funding, now’s the time to finalize those loans.

  3. Pay Attention to College Bills: Keep track of tuition deadlines and other fees. Missing a payment can result in being dropped from classes.

  4. Attend Orientation: Orientation is a blast! Meet your roommate, explore the campus, and get familiar with your new home.

  5. Pick Your Fall Classes: Freshmen get the last pick, so have backup options. Ensure you don’t overload yourself in the first semester—ease into college life.
